Something Tasty Out of A Sea of Black??

January 21st, 2008 at 04:51 pm

How to create something tasty out of a sea of black? The black sea that is my closet. You see, I am a lover of the simple black and white motif for a basic wardrobe. The only thing is I never buy much white!! hahaha!

I open my closet to look for a specific piece and WHAM the black hole that is my closet just kind of blends into differing shades of black! I need to do something about that!!

And I am trying.

I did buy some solid sherbert shade sweaters this year thinking I may go back to the corporate world at some point and I can always wear them to church.

I was just thinking about how to rotate my clothes better when I ran across the below website.

I like the idea this girl has below. I'd also take a head w/hair out of the way and hand shot to go w/each outfit to show what jewelry I've picked to go w/each outfit. Or a shot of just the jewelry items grouped together.

How is this financial? The more combo outfits you can get out of your current clothing, the less you have to purchase foolishly to create some level of knowing that whatever comes up you've got something to wear!! Organized and planned equals less dollars spent.

However, I still need to do something about how to tell one black item from the next in my closet a little easier.

Maybe floodlights installed in the closet???

How about you - do you have your clothing well organized? Does it save you money???

I'm your basic-black kind of gal as well -- although in the last year or two I have ventured into browns, blues and greens as well. I looked at that blog you linked to and after starting to envy her cute outfits promptly closed the link so I wouldn't be enticed to throw my wardrobe out and start over with a quick trip to the mall today. ...

no, no, no - please no shopping today!! Please don't - I'd feel so guilty.

That twasn't the idea at all! Glad you were able to shut the urge down.

I just laugh because I am also INFJ and my closet is all black. Is it something in the personality?

I try to buy more vibrant shirts and sweaters.

& all my pants and jackets are black. & black tops for patterned skirts.

It is too complicated for me to think beyond that. Black just goes with everything. But everyone gets so excited when I wear color. Wink
My closet is not organized at all. But it sounds like a plan. Good Luck!

Hey! I totally understand the sea of black feeling. I have a sea of anything but black at the moment.. I used to wear only black, but then realised that it didn't even suit me! It made my face look sickly and wan, and it just made me feel boring. My solution was a lot of culling and a lot of shopping, little by little. I also spent some time working out what shades of which colours suit me. I did this by grabbing a whole lot of clothes in interesting colours, taking them to the fitting rooms and wrapping them around my neck to see if the colour made my face look better or worse. It was a bit of a process. I'll probably blog about it soon Smile Wow, that was a long, rambly comment, I guess because it's late. I hope it was interesting, anyway! Big Grin Mind if I link to your blog?

@Gauri-Hey I'd be happy if you linked to my blog.

Back in the early 90's I had my colors done and I found my little book that they gave out the other day. The two pink things you see in my closet are my latest efforts to try to get back to that point where my fashions actually do something 'for me'. According to the color chart, my black should be a dark heather gray, but I'm really most comfortable wearing black. I am trying to keep some of it away from my face though.

Oh, and I think that turquose v-neck tee you were wearing with the tan pants would go great with all three of those skirts you were modeling! You have a great fashion sense and the cute figure to go with!

@monkey-mama: I totally understand - people always comment if I have a day w/o black on - it's like their world tilts or something.

    "Is something different?"

"Did you do something to your hair?"

    "Loose weight?"

"I don't know what it is but there is something different today????"

    hhahahaha!!

What I think is funny is that we are the INFJ's around here and quite verbal here and wouldn't likely be pegged as ourselves in a meeting of the group!

Lux I thought so too (about the green v-neck) but it didn't seem to when I tried. I think the green is a lot more luminous than it came up in the pictures so I would need a balancing element in the outfit (like a belt of a certain colour, or similar) to make those outfits work, and I don't think I have that. I'll keep working on it though because I'd love it for those things to match well. And thanks for the compliments Smile
    And consider yourself linked Smile
