Tough Cookies Neighbor

Oregon loggers - not my part of the world. What a brave guy to lay down in there!!

Yesterday was a No Spend Day, mostly because we (Hubster, myself, FrugalsSon and CashHappySon) started at 9:00 am and ending at 6:00 pm when we ran out of daylight cutting up & stacking MORE of the wood on our place that fell off or was hanging from the recent ice storm.

That is in addition to all the work Hubster did while he was on vacation!

I'm telling you the trees here were majorly decimated.

DEFORESTATION via Mother Nature on a grand scale!

It is so sad, and to make it worse I spent a lot of my time yesterday fending off my next door neighbor AGAIN who keeps wanting to cut down this or that ON MY PROPERTY!!

NO, I don't want it taken down!

LEAVE IT ALOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNE!!!!

What part does the guy not understand??

Poor Hubster - he is having to hear my ranting and raving over this issue. I am trying to be polite to the neighbor but he is getting on my one last nerve.

BY CRACKY, It takes A LONG, LONG, LONG time to grow a tree and if there is any way to save some of these then that is what we're going to do - on my side of the fence buckobobby!! GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

Get this, he's going to rent 'at his expense' a brush hog to come on my property and cut down my bamboo stand.

Ummmmmm....NO THE *&@&*$& THANKS!!!

I like it.

I want it.

No, you can't come over here and cut it down!!

Makes a girl want to say a dirty word. Or SIX!!!

See, he likes his yard NAKED. I don't like mine that way. The bamboo stand in my yard blocks an unsightly view of one neighbor's swimming pool, plus it gives all kinds of creatures a cool place to hang out, etc.

You don't like it?

Tough Cookies Neighbor!

Did I mention that my house and my bamboo were here when you decided to move in the neighborhood and build???

I also don't like looking out my window and seeing your boat (which by the way you haven't touched in 8 years) in the back yard w/the blue tarp over it! We each have our crosses to bear.

But, I didn't say all that. If he keeps pushing me...I will.

The Frugalis Back Forty - Spring '07

Steetview - You can't see it in this picture but nearby sits a little Oriental cement pagoda light and a white wooden bridge that crosses the creek. Hopefully one day I am going to add an Oriental garden gate to this area (yes to keep out the one neighbor!!) Big Grin From this p.o.view you can't see SawHappyNeighbor's house at all! And it is a lovely new brick home, but I don't want to look at it.

This side faces the creek and here I'm hoping to add a bench and then to the right in the picture add the gate. It is very peaceful here and the rest of the lawn is well-manicured so it isn't as if my whole place is covered with bamboo. There are two whole houses back behind this on the other side of the street that you can't even see. That's the part I like BEST!

Same streetview as above taken today after the icestorm and some cleanup.

The county is supposed to start pickup in the next week. Won't be too soon for me.

Yes, the bamboo will spring back. Even if we did let him cut it down it would just grow back stronger! Wink But, we aren't going to do that - I reminded Hubster this is our neighbor that has a lawyer and isn't afraid to use him...sure as shooting he'd hurt his back or big toe nail over here and we'd be in court and/or have an insurance claim. No way!

We need an additional row of fencing!!

After the summer of three hurricanes my parents neighbors decided to take down all of the trees in their yard. I kind of understood where they were coming from, during two seperate hurricanes a limb from the trees did some pretty expensive damage to their home (FEMA and their home owner's took care of them though)

Anyways, my parents have a couple of nice trees in their yard and said neighbors were practically begging my parents to let them take down the trees.

Now said neighbor complains, and often, about how hot her yard is without the trees. "Amanda, I swear our electric bill is higher without the trees." or "Amanda, sometimes it's just too hot without the shade of the trees to even go outside."

Really, really people ... you just thought of that AFTER you chopped down thirty year old trees.

By the way ... we haven't seen a hurricane since ... of course one COULD come, and it COULD knock anoter limb unto their house. But, you can bet summer is around the corner and their electric bill will be crazy without the shade and their yard won't be cool enough to enjoy. Save the trees!

When I moved onto my 2 acres, the only trees were lined along the creek. Now, we have dozens and dozens of trees, all planted by us. I agree, save the trees!

@reginastralis - my entire house, except for where the big side 'baseball field' side yard is located, is very well shaded w/cedar trees and 100-200++ year old oaks. No way on God's green earth am I letting some nutcrank over here w/a chainsaw. God love his peckerwood hide, I think maybe he is just trying to be helpful, but STAY ON YOUR SIDE OF THE PROPERTY LINE, Neighbor!

I am part Native American and have a deep affinity for nature and it literally hurts me to see the trees damaged like they are. Besides which our utility bills are very, Very, VERY reasonable, which is one of the reasons we bought this place. THE TREES, THE TREES, THE TREES.

I like them. I love them. I want some more of them.

Did I mention that this is the same neighbor who has MOWED DOWN trees we planted? No? Well he did. GAAAA!!! It was all Hubster could do then to hold me back from ripping the guys eyes out! Really, I'm very sweet, but don't you be 'helping' me, by mowing my yard, you gooberheaded naaay-bore!

    What is with these people???

@Julie - when I'm in your state I love it, it feels like coming home with all the trees!!

    GOD SAVE THE TREES!

My mother used to get live Christmas trees from a client that was a wholesale nursery and plant them in the back 40 and the side yard. All different kinds of trees. I still can't get over your neighbor wanting to mess about with YOUR yard. He needs a different hobby, lol. Sheesh!

Yep, stick to your guns. Your yard is just that..yours!

@JanH - he needs a different hobby? Isn't that the truth!!! You'd have to know him, he has a good job and some rental properties and he's very energetic which is nice in a neighbor in that he keeps his own place up.

He's also one of those VERY LOUD, know-it-all, must be the center of attention people too. Annoyingly he owns on two sides of us. Behind the creek and sitting on land below us is where his house sits and then he bought out the property next door to me on my right - which is 'up top'. Which means he drives by on his little mower to mow the 'up top' place - then he wants to stop and chat.

I chat here online, but in person, I am NOT a chatter.

I want to make clear that we keep our place up very nicely. I mow once a week religiously all summer and Hubster weedeats the entire 2 1/2 acres twice a month. I also put out Roundup along all of our fence rows, so it isn't like we don't keep our place up, because we do. The area behind the bamboo and between our two houses is kept like a park.

It's like he's rushing us along on this cleanup deal which is a riot because Hubster had 12 days off at Christmas - 8 of which he worked daylight to dark all day every day trying to clean out from all this mess. Boys and I were all sick so he was going it alone, aside from that which my nephew-in-law cut that one afternoon.

Yesterday we are all out there breaking our backs slaving away and here comes Mr. Naaaay-Bore. Does it make me un-neighborly that I tried to just keep working and ignore him? Probably.

BUT, he keeps seeing the boys outside and asking them questions, "Will your Mom care if I take down this bamboo?", "Can I cut that tree down for your Mom and keep the firewood?", "Ask your Mom & Dad if I can take a bulldozer across 'the top' to do some work in the creek area." Come on. Yes they are young adult manchildren, but come and ask the gentleman of the house you RUFE-DUFUS and then when he has given you the answer, "NO", don't come back over and keep asking the same annoying questions!

Can you tell this guy strokes on all the nerve-endings? Well, yeah, he does!! I just come from the country, where your stuff is your stuff and the neighbors don't come crawling around trying to insinuate themselves into your business. It drives me CRAZZZZY Mad!!

@Fern - thanks Fern! I so love looking at YOUR beautiful yard w/all the feeders and good places for the birdies! The birds are loving all the piled up brush here. Lots of Cardinals, BlueJays, Woodpeckers and Robins are in and out of the brushpiles.

@Denisentexas - Yeah, Denise, thanks!! I'm thinking of catching his wife outside and asking her, "Do you think your husband will mind if I chainsaw his boat and use it for yard-art??"

Sounds like a PNW story about a judge who didn't like that a tree was impinging on his view. He cut it down. Funny how it was on a Seattle city park.

Well, he sounds relentless, so you have to be also. Say no, keep saying no, make sure your kids say no to him, and make sure you know your zoning and property laws. After that, your property is yours.

FYI - I'll bet the wife will say yes to you chainsawing the boat. Big Grin

Oh and if you are totally wicked, take a page from Earth First and monkey wrench a tree with some large metal spikes. Make 'em big, you want to disable his chainsaw before he kills the tree.
