Yesterday's Bank Run

In between running kids here and there yesterday and helping Aurielle and Rduell make their 100 posts I made my weekly Saturday bank run. Depositing $2.52.

This is from my weekly allowance that I didn't spend and it is extra beyond what I put into my IRA on my own and beyond what The Hubster and I budget for my IRA. It is really never all that much because I don't take a big allowance, but every little bit towards retirement helps!

BANK RUNS
Nov MTD $2.52

beginning 8/23/06 and forward Cummulative Total $25.06

Every little bit does help, but do you really go to the bank and put in the $2.52?

hehe. I dont think I could do it... I felt kind of silly last month depositing change into my account (granted, most was in rolls, but my little plastic baggie seemed so silly!)... That $2.52 would have been stored somewhere I wouldn't spend it until I had at least $5, but Priceplus is right, even the smallest amounts accrue interest, so I salute you! Smile

pjmama, that is the way I feel. I put all my change in a jar and save all my challenge money in a cash box. When I get quite a bit, I put it in my 5.25 savings account.

Yep, I put it in - head held high. Why should I be embarassed? I live about a mile from my bank and am by there about 3 or 4 times a day anyway. I put it in there and move it immediately to my high interest savings account so it can be put to work earning me some interest. It also helps builds the habit of savings in my kids as one or both still at home are usually with me when I do, and they're usually conducting some type of banking at the same time.

So, lots of ya'll folks have said you are usually turned down for trying to turn in a lot of change, but now you'd be embarrassed to put in small amounts? Sounds as if you can't win. I don't care if it's little or not, I want to deposit it and get it out to laboring building me some future income.

I could take a smaller allowance and leave it in the bank to begin with, however, I do like the option to be able to spend mine IF I want to or to feel the feelings of having denied myself a bit now in order to build for the future later. It's a psychological thing I guess. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it. My methods may not work for everyone, but they work for me. Smile

i feel you lux: my change & buck bucket comes out of my allowance as well; some weeks it's impressive, some weeks it's just sad *g* i am, however, waiting to put it in the bank 'cause i don't have any change rolls yet! ack!

I deposit small amounts all the time, if that is what I have to deposit. My usual teller never knows what he is going to get, but he has noticed how my balance has grown since I started saving in April and he noted the other day that it was consistency that was making it grow, no matter how big or small the amount, and he'd started adding bits to his own account and was proud that he'd saved $100 over the last 4 months. The other teller laughed, but I just said, "Don't worry about her, WE KNOW, don't we?" And he just nodded quietly.
